But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
What does it mean to leave your mark in the world? What does it look like to infuse God’s fruits of the Spirit on others?
A couple of weeks ago I had the honor to attend a celebration of life service. The service was for my best friend’s sister, Laura. Vast crowds of friends and family came to support the family; it was standing room only. As I watched the room fill up, it made me want to learn more about Laura and how she touched each person in the room.
As each beautiful person stepped up to share about Laura’s life story, the same theme stood true: Love. Laura was about love. She lived it, shared it and celebrated it. Laura’s love embossed each person’s heart with unconditional love. Her mark, her signature of her life, and her spiritual DNA was love. Laura thrived on love and washed it over everyone who knew her.
My heart and head took notes and I started thinking: What mark am I "stamping" on others? If a chemist took spiritual DNA samples of people I share life with, what would be found under the microscope? What am I pouring out on those closest to me?
Our Provider has perfectly branded each of us with His spiritual DNA; our DNA branding is unique. God made it that way. We are also created in His own image. “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 (NIV). With marks from our Heavenly Father, He created us to spread, stamp and pour out our spiritual DNA on others.
Here is a challenge for you and me. This week, ask your spouse or a trusted friend what godly word stands out the most when they think of you. Then feed that word with His Word. Grow it. Spread it. Be bold in it. Prayerfully ask God to give you the courage to be contagious as you spread and spill your mark on others, your spiritual DNA. Go, share, shine and leave His mark. Go stamp your people and leave the mark of God today and every day...just like Laura.
